PHOENIX MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS GROUP Alternative WFNX/BOSTON is giving a few old friends a chance to play in "THE SANDBOX." On JULY 23, 'FNX will debut a new morning show hosted by CHRIS "CHARLIE" PADGETT, DUSTIN "FLETCHER" MATTHEWS, and ELBE "SPECIAL ED" D’OLIVEIRA, who previously worked together at COX Alternative WDYL (Y101)/RICHMOND from 2004-2006.
CHARLIE joins from mornings at NORTHEAST BROADCASTINGS Triple A WNCS/MONTPELIER-BURLINGTON, VT. FLETCHER has been PD/afternoons at TRIAD BROADCASTING Alternative WFXH (ROCK 106.1)/SAVANNAH, GA-HILTON HEAD, SC. ED has been co-hosting mornings at WDYL.
WFNX PD KEITH DAKIN, who also worked at WDYL, said he hired the show based on their "hilarious podcasts that showed a program really tapped into the lifestyle of the FNX listener. "We also felt the station lacked people with lip rings. So FLETCHER was an obvious choice."
"THE SANDBOX" show will focus on engaging an interactive audience with smart, inventive, tech-savvy, political, and pop-culture-focused content.
"When the three of us all worked together, there was a definite chemistry," noted FLETCHER. "When we all went to different markets, we kept it alive with our website. Between doing our regular jobs, we continued to make podcasts and videos and it really started to catch fire."
FLETCHER explained, "This show will be different from your usual morning talkfest because, well, because we’re awesome. But beyond that we want THE SANDBOX to go beyond just listening in the morning. We want the show to be a radio, video, and web destination. You listen to the show. You read the blogs. You download the podcasts. But then the listener joins our inner circle. They sit in here with us. They text us. They chat with us. This will be the most one-on-one radio show in the market."
ED concurred with FLETCHER, saying that this will either "change the business forever or ruin our careers." He also added, "The show will take full of advantage of the PHOENIX MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS GROUP's many other alternative media outlets, including THE BOSTON PHOENIX NEWSPAPER, STUFF @ NIGHT magazine, its websites and it’s mobile marketing company, G8WAVE. We also are thrilled to be working with legendary FNX newsman HENRY SANTORO."
