U.S. album sales fell 15% in the first half of this year as an increase in sales of downloaded albums failed to make up for a continued decline in compact discs, reports BLOOMBERG.
Retailers sold 229.8 million albums in the six months ended JULY 1, researcher NIELSEN SOUNDSCAN said in an emailed statement yesterday.
VIVENDI SA's UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP remained the U.S. market share leader with 34% of new-album sales.
