Oldies 101 Rumor Ramps Up

Yesterday's rumor (NET NEWS 7/5) about WCBS-FM/NEW YORK dumping the JACK-FM format for a return to its beloved OLDIES 101 format gained strength when a well-placed source "declined to comment" when asked about the potentially huge spin of the format wheel.
And now NewYorkBusiness.com is running a story entitled "WCBS To Return To Oldies Format," saying that the flip will indeed happen next week, under recently named CBS RADIO President DAN MASON, and indicates some veteran voices would be heard and the music will be a bit younger in focus.
The flip from OLDIES 101 to JACK-FM happened on JUNE 3, 2005 and caused a public outcry among fans, and recovery both in ratings and revenue has been markedly slow. Just for a point of reference, OLDIES 101 signed on the air 35 years ago tomorrow -- JULY 7, 1972.
Meanwhile, JACK-FM is doing an "Excellent 80s Weekend" as highlighted on 1011jackfm.com, and you can hear it when you click here. And, over at Internet Oldies outlet WCBS-FM HD2 it's a "Class Reunion Weekend" which is "Celebrating 35 years playing the best Pop, Rock & Soul." Hear it by clicking here.
