Dan Patrick To Leave ESPN August 17
July 9, 2007 at 11:10 AM (PT)
ESPN RADIO host DAN PATRICK told his audience today (7/9) that he will be leaving ESPN on AUGUST 17. "I've spent 18 years here and it's been home, but I think I started to take it for granted," PATRICK said, adding that the network tried to talk him out of leaving and that his continuing on the air after the announcement was evidence of a lack of animosity.
PATRICK was set to make the announcement last TUESDAY but said that he instead took the rest of last week off while the network asked him to reconsider. He gave no indication of future plans but said that he hopes radio will be a part of his future.
In a press release issued cuncurrently with PATRICK's on-air announcement, the host said, "I’ve spent a third of my life at ESPN. All my children were born while I was employed here. I feel privileged to have had this opportunity and I have extremely mixed emotions about leaving. With that said, I told ESPN that I believe it’s time for me to try something different, something that will also be challenging and rewarding. While I’m not sure what that will be, I am grateful to ESPN for its willingness to allow me to pursue new endeavors.”
EVP NORBY WILLIAMSON added, "DAN has accomplished so much over the past two decades at ESPN and fans and newsmakers have turned to him for his steady and trusted approach. We wish him the very best."
