Brownback To Offer Anti-Indecency Amendments

Anti-indecency crusader Sen. SAM BROWNBACK (R-KS) is taking another run at the issue, planning to tack amendments to a finance bill that would allow the FCC to ban fleeting expletives and "excessive violence" on radio and TV. The move, expected to be offered at the Senate Appropriations Committee meeting THURSDAY (7/12), is an attempt to circumvent a Second Circuit decision in the U.S. Court of Appeals that reversed and remanded the FCC's rulings banning the passing utterance of expletives.
In a statement on the amendments, BROWNBACK said, "Broadcasters should not be allowed to use the public airways to disseminate violent or obscene material. The abundance of indecent material on television is one indication of the coarsening of our culture."
