ABC Sports KSPN-A (710 ESPN)/LOS ANGELES and the UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ink an extension to their deal that keeps the station as USC's football and men's basketball flagship through the 2010-11 season. The parties were in the midst of a three-year deal that started APRIL 1, 2006. PETE ARBOGAST and JOHN JACKSON remain the football announcing team, with RORY MARKAS and JIM HEFNER continuing as the basketball crew.
"With the great success, coverage, reach and support we received from 710 ESPN in our first year, it was an easy decision to cement our partnership for the future," said USC Athletic Director MIKE GARRETT. "The influence of the USC and 710 ESPN names creates one of the most powerful brand associations on the SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA sports landscape, and this association has benefited both our fans and advertisers as the quality of our broadcasts has never been better throughout all of SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. We are proud to call 710 ESPN the flagship station of USC football and men’s basketball."
710 ESPN GM BOB KOONTZ added, "We are extremely proud and excited to extend our broadcast contract for play-by-play of USC football and basketball. The combination of 710 ESPN’s award-winning programming with USC’s rich heritage, loyal SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA fan base and top-notch football and basketball programs is an unbeatable championship team. We look forward to sharing that 'Spirit of Troy' with our listeners for many years to come."
The station also raised $61,000 in donations for the V FOUNDATION Auction during WEDNESDAY's auction and radiothon supporting the cancer charity co-founded by ESPN and the late JIM VALVANO.
