AC-Talk WYAC (PARADISE 93.5 FM)/CHRISTIANSTED, ST. CROIX, VI talk host ROGER W. MORGAN's battle to buy the station over the objections of four ST. CROIX Senators who MORGAN had worked to recall a few months ago has received front-page treatment in the WALL STREET JOURNAL.
MORGAN's THE RAIN BROADCASTING CO. filed to buy WYAC from PHILIP and ELLEN KUHLMAN for $375,000 in DECEMBER, and has operated the station under an LMA since JUNE 2004. MORGAN's show, "FREE SPEECH," was the catalyst for the unsuccessful recall attempt after the senators voted themselves a 31% pay raise, and the senators are attempting to exact their revenge by filing to block the sale and accusing MORGAN of, among other things, trying to overthrow the government and being a KLAN member. The JOURNAL piece profiles MORGAN, a former OMAHA, SAN DIEGO, and SAN FRANCISCO radio personality, and details the controversy and the tension between "mainlanders" like MORGAN and natives of the islands.
