SYD SCHWARTZ has been appointed SVP/Digital Strategy for CAPITOL MUSIC GROUP. He will report to COO JEFF KEMPLER and Pres. LEE TRINK. He will also work closely with parent company EMI MUSIC’s SVP/Digital, LAUREN BERKOWITZ, and serve as a liaison with other EMI digital and label executives around the world.
SCHWARTZ most recently served as SVP/Digital Strategy at VIRGIN RECORDS, where he conceived and executed a series of groundbreaking digital promotions for such artists as 30 SECONDS TO MARS, GORILLAZ, KORN, LENNY KRAVITZ and THE ROLLING STONES, among others.
"I’m excited to work with the amazing artists on CAPITOL’s roster alongside a group of forward-thinking executives in this digitally-driven environment," said SCHWARTZ. "I look forward to leading CAPITOL’s digital initiatives to break artists and break new ground with exciting new business models that deliver music to fans, from the established to those that haven’t been invented yet -- as we continue to redefine the role of a major label."
"Today, labels not only need great A&R and the ability to create, develop and market great music, we need to be on the leading edge of finding and developing fantastic digital opportunities for our artists," said TRINK. "To that end, SYD is one of the best digital ‘A&R’ guys out there."
