Independent artists are no longer required to waive digital rights to gain airplay on CLEAR CHANNEL RADIO reports DIGITALMUSICNEWS.COM. As part of a payola-related settlement, CLEAR CHANNEL and other radio companies agreed to allocate portions of airplay time for independent and unsigned artists. CLEAR CHANNEL was also targeted for asking the bands to forgo their online royalties, particularly as it relates to online station simulcasts and on-demand offerings.
That requirement was rallied against by groups like the WASHINGTON, D.C.-based FUTURE OF MUSIC COALITION, an organization that recently filed a formal complaint with the FCC.
