Fairness Doctrine Ban Amendment Rejected Again

The Senate rejected Sen. NORM COLEMAN (R-MN)'s attempt to tack a Fairness Doctrine ban to another bill FRIDAY, with the amendment to a higher education bill winning by 49 to 48, but failing to win the 60 votes needed for the amendment to be considered.
The primary objection came from Sen. EDWARD KENNEDY (D-MA), who complained that the amendment didn't have enough to do with the primary bill.
COLEMAN earlier in the week tried to attach the amendment to a defense bill earlier last week, a move that also failed.
