FCC's Martin: No Reason To Bring Back Fairness Doctrine
July 26, 2007 at 3:29 PM (PT)
A letter by FCC Chairman KEVIN MARTIN to Rep. MIKE PENCE (R-IN) says that the FCC has found "no compelling reason" to revisit the idea of reinstating the Fairness Doctrine. MARTIN wrote, "With the continued proliferation of additional sources of information and programming, including satellite broadcasting and the Internet, the need for the Fairness Doctrine has lessened even further since 1987."
PENCE and Rep. GREG WALDEN (R-OR) issued a joint statement in favor of MARTIN's opinion, but saying that they would continue to push for legislation to prevent future Commissions from bringing the Fairness Doctrine back.
