Donations continued to pour into GLEANERS FOOD BANK OF INDIANA on WEDNESDAY, as the staffs of ENTERCOM/INDIANAPOLIS' three market stations, Hot AC WZPL, Adult Hits WNTR (107.9 THE TRACK) and News/Talk WXNT-A all helped restock the food bank after theives robbed the organization.
Initially, as much as $464,000 of food was in jeopardy, but thanks to repairs made quickly, the actual loss was limited to $142,085, according to a release issued late WEDNESDAY by GLEANERS Pres./CEO PAM ALTMEYER. The food became unfit for human consumption after thieves ripped out copper tubing from compressors over the weekend, causing temperatures to rise in coolers and freezers. About 82,637 pounds of perishables were lost.
Personalities from three ENTERCOM stations were on the air from 6a-3p WEDNESDAY, encouraging listeners to donate canned goods, perishable foods or cash. The combination of cash and food donations translated to 120 tons of food products, according to ENTERCOM.
