Condolences to family and friends of weekly OAKLAND POST editor CHAUNCEY BAILEY, who was killed by a gunshot THURSDAY near the OAKLAND courthouse as he walked on the street.
BAILEY, 57 and an OAKLAND native, was killed in what police say was a deliberate hit; as a reporter for the OAKLAND TRIBUNE for over a decade and at the DETROIT NEWS before that, he was known for aggressive reporting and interviewing of city officials.
BAILEY previously worked at the old KDIA-A/OAKLAND as Public Affairs Director and as a News Director and talk show host at the SOUL BEAT and OUR-TV local cable TV channels, and served as Press Secretary for Rep. GUS SAVAGE (D-IL) and as a writer for the GLOBE NEWSPAPERS in OAKLAND. He had been writing freelance travel stories for the POST before being named Editor in JUNE.
