Canadian Radio Revenues Rise In '06

The latest report from STATISTICS CANADA shows private radio advertising revenue rising 5.3$ to C$1.4 billion in 2006, a growth rate that is slower than 2005's 8.7% and the five-year average of 5.7%. Profits before interest and taxes were up 4% to C$284 million, a 20% profit margin.
The highest profit margin was for English language stations at 22%, followed by French stations at 11.5% and Ethnic stations at 8.3%. Stations in the five largest markets had a 26.9% profit margin, ahead of other markets (13.4%) and stations outside metro areas (13.9%). AM stations' profits before interest and taxes jumped 29.7% to C$17.6 million, although almost half of all AMs were in the red.
