Report: NBC Forced Imus Into Sharpton, 'Today' Appearances

FOX NEWS' Website is reporting that NBC SVP PHIL GRIFFIN "coaxed" DON IMUS into making his infamous appearance on Rev. AL SHARPTON's radio show and other apology appearances after the WESTWOOD ONE/MSNBC/WFAN-A/NEW YORK host's comments about the RUTGERS women's basketball team.
Gossip columnist ROGER FRIEDMAN writes that he was told by sources that IMUS had wanted to apologize directly to the RUTGERS players and "leave it at that," but GRIFFIN insisted on IMUS making appearances on SHARPTON's show and the "TODAY SHOW," allegedly under the threat of cancelling the MSNBC simulcast if IMUS refused.
"He didn’t care about IMUS," FRIEDMAN quotes a source as saying about GRIFFIN, "only NBC. He told DON he would lose the MSNBC show if he didn’t do the interviews. Then NBC canceled the show anyway."
WABC’s Sliwa: I Don’t Think Imus Will Take My Slot
Meanwhile, on FOX NEWS CHANNEL's "BIG STORY," CITADEL Talk WABC-A/NEW YORK morning co-host CURTIS SLIWA, whose show (with RON KUBY) is in the line of fire should IMUS strike a deal with CITADEL to do a morning show for that company, told host JOHN GIBSON, "I don’t think DON IMUS will end up taking my slot, but if he does, why not? He got executed in a horrible way by that racial racketeer AL 'SLIM SHADY' SHARPTON.... (IMUS is) entitled to a return. He’s a legend in the business."
SLIWA, who tried on an IMUS-style cowboy hat for the cameras, added that if IMUS "had been next to me and made that comment (about the RUTGERS women), I might have hit him so hard his mother would have felt the vibrations." He suggested that if and when IMUS returns, "They’re going to have a target on his back. He’s going to have a very tough time being the DON IMUS that we grew up with."
