The moral of the story is that you don't joke about giving away money on the radio, which is how, according to the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES' ROBERT FEDER, CITADEL Talk WLS-A/CHICAGO weekend overnight host NATE CLAY earned a two-week suspension.
CLAY joked that he would give $1,000 to the first caller who could identify the writer of a SAM COOKE song, but when someone did call in, the station felt compelled to pay the money and suspend CLAY for the infraction. VP/GM JOHN GALLAGHER told FEDER, "I considered it an issue we had to take action on."
