PA Football Analyst's School Board Run Poses Equal Time Issue

Does calling high school and small college football games on the radio fall into the equal time category if the commentator runs for school board? Yes, says RENDA BROADCASTING, which has asked opposing candidates in the INDIANA AREA SCHOOL BOARD race in INDIANA, PA to sign waivers of the equal time rule to allow candidate and football analyst DOUG STEVE to continue covering games for its Hot AC WQMU (U 92) and Oldies WDAD-A/INDIANA, PA.
Three opponents have signed the waivers to allow STEVE to do the games without triggering the equal time rule, but one, JOSEPH TRIMARCHI, has not. If he does not, STEVE's appearances on the air will trigger equal time requirements 60 days before the NOVEMBER 6th election.
GM MARK BERTIG tells AP, "We're governed by the FCC and we have to follow those rules, whether we like it or not."
