UMG's independent distributor FONTANA has announced a deal to distribute AMOEBA RECORDS, the label created by AMOEBA MUSIC, the world’s largest independently-owned record store.
Starting its first store in BERKELEY in 1990l, AMOEBA MUSIC has since added new retail stores in SAN FRANCISCO'S HAIGHT-ASHBURY district and Sunset Boulevard in HOLLYWOOD, as well as a vibrant online presence (www.amoeba.com). Known for its diverse musical selection and the way it caters to passionate music lovers, the retailer has launched its own label, which will focus on previously unavailable and special releases, as well as one-of-a-kind live in-stores, AMOEBA compilations, special collaborations and select new artists.
"We are delighted to welcome the iconic AMOEBA music company to the FONTANA family," stated FONTANA VP/Bus. Development DAVID ZIERLER. "AMOEBA is an international symbol of organic quality and this new label will surely be home for many of independent music’s most valuable treasures in the years to come. We look forward to helping them develop this new facet of their overall business."
"When we were speaking with potential partners, it was very important to us to find a distribution company which shared our passion for music and our commitment to exposing underexposed music and artists," AMOEBA's DAVID PRINZ. "There’s a real synergy between FONTANA and the way it approaches its roster of labels. Their enthusiasm for the music is palpable. We feel FONTANA is simpatico in every respect with AMOEBA’s philosophies, and it’s going to be a wonderful partnership."
AMOEBA RECORDS' initial releases are from the singer-songwriter BRANDI SHEARER (out now) and a recently discovered live recording from musical legend GRAM PARSONS & THE FLYING BURRITO BROTHERS (due OCT. 30).
