Suicidal Woman Saved By Talk Radio Listeners

A woman who called LEIGHTON SMITH's show on NEWSTALKZB/NEW ZEALAND and made suicidal comments was saved from an insulin overdose when listeners found and helped her. The woman, who gave her name as "CLAIRE," told SMITH that she was giving up after a custody battle and had taken too much insulin.
SMITH kept the woman talking while his producer called the police, and when SMITH was able to convince her to give her location and she said she was in a grey car parked near WHENUAPAI air base, several listeners rushed to the area, one smashed in the window with a fire extinguisher, and the woman was pulled out and taken to the hospital.
