ALL ACCESS hears that on the day Canadian media legend MOSES ZNAIMER is relaunching his Classical CFMZ (THE NEW CLASSICAL 96.3)/TORONTO (formerly CFMX), his MZ MEDIA INC. is buying crosstown Adult Standards CHWO-A (AM 740 PRIME TIME RADIO) for an undisclosed price. ZNAIMER is the co-founder of groundbreaking independent CITY-TV/TORONTO; he later headed CHUM LTD.'s TV and cable properties. CHWO is the station that took over the 50,000-watt 740 AM slot vacated by the CBC's CBL-A when the latter moved to FM. The purchase of CHWO comes as ZNAIMER also announced the purchase of 50plus.com, a website aimed at boomers and retired people.
The relaunch of CFMZ includes a morning show "GOOD DAY GTA" with MIKE DUNCAN and JEAN STILWELL, and ALEXA PETRENKO in afternoons. The station is featuring live classical performances all day TODAY to herald the new programming.
