The BROADCASTING COMMISSION OF IRELAND gave its regulatory blessing to the purchase of national Top 40 station TODAY FM and AC/Country/Dance HIGHLAND RADIO/DONEGAL by EMAP to DENIS O'BRIEN's COMMUNICORP, but rejected a third purchase of Rock FM104/DUBLIN on the grounds that it would give the buyer too much ownership concentration in the DUBLIN market.
COMMUNICORP already owns Rock 98FM, Talk NEWSTALK, and Top 40 SPIN 103.8/DUBLIN, and O'BRIEN has an interest in AC/Talk EAST COAST FM/COUNTY WICKLOW.
COMMUNICORP bought the three stations for about 200 million euros in JULY, pending regulatory approval. The two approved deals still require approval from the COMPETITION AUTHORITY.
