ASTRAL MEDIA AC CKXR (91.5 EZ ROCK)/SALMON ARM, BC gets CRTC approval to add new transmitters at ENDERBY, BC and SICAMOUS, BC. The ENDERBY transmitter will run 210 watts at 104.3 FM, and the SICAMOUS transmitter will use 102.1 FM with 200 watts. The application was granted over the objection of IN-HOUSE COMMUNICATIONS, which is applying for a new station on 103.9 FM in KELOWNA, BC.
The CRTC also rejected WESTWAVE BROADCASTING's application for an additional transmitter at POWELL RIVER, BC to rebroadcast its AC CKAY (THE COAST 91.7)/SECHELT, BC, ruling that POWELL RIVER, where WESTWAVE had lost a previous bid for a new local station, cannot support more than one commercial FM.
And the commission approved TRENT RADIO's application to grant a new Class B community station license for its existing TRENT UNIVERSITY campus station CFFF/PETERBOROUGH, ON. The change in classification reflects the move to management by an independent not-for-profit community organization. The station continues as CFFF under a new license.
