John Edwards Proposes Two-Year Delay For Drug Ads

JOHN EDWARDS is targeting prescription drug ads with a plan to regulate the commercials by requiring a two-year delay from the launch of a new drug before it can be advertised.
The Democratic presidential hopeful said at an event in NEW HAMPSHIRE, "I think two years makes sense. I think it gives enough time for a drug not just to have been tested in clinical trials, but to be out among the public, to see what kind of adverse reactions there have been." He would also increase penalties for violations of truth-in-advertising laws as well as requiring more disclosure of side effects and comparisons to alternative drugs and placebos.
