Another Strike Looms For CBS

CBS TV and RADIO are in danger of being hit by another strike -- this one authorized by its stations' news writers, producers, editors and artists. The strike authorization vote is scheduled for tomorrow and FRIDAY.
According to the NEW YORK TIMES, the primary bone of contention is CBS’ intention to create a pay system that would provide smaller raises for radio workers than television workers, as well as the likely merging of some newsroom operations.
The Writers Guild told the TIMES that a strike authorization is likely, since 99% of the union had voted to turn down the last CBS offer, which came a year ago, and no changes have been made since.
There are several discrepancies in the matter. The network says about 200 workers are affected; the union cites 500 being impacted. CBS said it was offering about a 3% raise to TV employees and 2% to local radio employees, but the union claims the figures were 2.2% and 1.48%.
