Taylor Swift Makes History With #1 Hit
December 10, 2007 at 11:59 AM (PT)
BIG MACHINE artist TAYLOR SWIFT has scored a #1 hit this week with "Our Song." At 17, she is the youngest person to single-handedly write and sing a #1 Country single entirely on her own, and she's also the first female artist in Country music history to write or co-write every single song on a double-platinum-selling CD.
"Our Song" leapt from #6 to #1 this week on the BILLBOARD COUNTRY CHART and the MEDIABASE COUNTRY CHART, with the BILLBOARD jump being the highest since TIM MCGRAW's single, "Just To See You Smile," went from #6 to #1 10 years ago. TAYLOR is also the first female Country artist to make that big of a jump since 1994 when FAITH HILL's debut single "Wild One" went from #6 to #1.
Along with celebrating another #1 hit, TAYLOR turns 18 on THURSDAY and got an early birthday present last week when she found out she was nominated for a GRAMMY in the multi-genre category for "Best New Artist." That same day she also learned that her debut self-titled CD reached double-platinum status. Last month she won the CMA Horizon Award and in OCTOBER was named Songwriter/Artist of the Year from the NASHVILLE SONGWRITERS ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONAL.
