In another sign of the times, EMI's new owner, financier GUY HANDS, plans on boosting the number of 360-degree record deals with prospective talent. In these deals, artists agree to multiple rights contracts that allow the corporate label to profit from all aspects of their careers, from CDs and merchandising to T-shirt sales and touring.
FINNISH website IMPERIUMI.NET reports that last week, heavy metal group IRON MAIDEN became one of the first bands to sign such a deal with EMI.Such a pact is particularly suitable to "catalog" artists such as Iron Maiden, who get limited radio airplay but are still quite popular on the road.
