A new commercial radio licence for DUBLIN will be advertised in the coming weeks, following the decision of the BROADCASTING COMMISSION OF IRELAND (BCI) to resume its licensing program. The regulator temporarily suspended its licensing schedule to address the issue of digital terrestrial television, which was given priority by the DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATIONS.
It has now resumed the process, with three new radio licences due to be advertised in 2008 and expected to attract bids from several consortiums. A DUBLIN classic rock station and country and IRISH music stations for the north-ast and the mid-west will be up for grabs. A spokeswoman for the BCI said that the classic rock station would be advertised in the first quarter of 2008.
