City To Decide On KFI Tower Rebuild
January 8, 2008 at 5:43 AM (PT)
Tonight's the big night for CLEAR CHANNEL Talk KFI-A/LOS ANGELES and its attempt to rebuild its tower that was knocked down in a fatal plane crash three years ago, as the LA MIRADA City Council gets set to give final consideration to the rebuilding plan at tonight's meeting.
The tower, which CLEAR CHANNEL has proposed to rebuild to 684 feet, 76 feet less than the previous structure, has already received FAA and city Planning Commission approval but has been bitterly opposed by officials in neighboring FULLERTON and at FULLERTON AIRPORT, less than two miles away. KFI has been operating at half power from the tower since the accident and will temporarily use the former MONTECITO HEIGHTS tower of sister KTLK-A, just north of downtown LOS ANGELES, while construction takes place at the LA MIRADA site.
