Luis Jimenez Back On NYC Airwaves Tomorrow

The bright red digital numbers in the reception area of UNIVISION’s NEW YORK headquarters on Madison Ave. are not a clock, writes DAVID HINKLEY in THE DAILY NEWS. They are a countdown to 5:30a. TOMORROW, when LUIS JIMENEZ returns to NEW YORK radio -- specifically, to UNIVISION Spanish WCAA (LA KALLE).
"I’ve been counting down to NEW YORK since last JANUARY," says JIMENEZ. "I’ve missed it like crazy. In a lot of ways this feels like the first day of my radio career."
JIMENEZ, 37, is a major radio personality in an age when radio is downshifting on personality. Since he left "El Vacilón de la Mañana" on SBS Tropical WSKQ (LA MEGA) in DECEMBER 2006, no other host has stepped up to the #1 spot he held then and would love to reclaim.
"Now that I’ve been #1, I won’t be happy with anything else," says the PUERTO RICAN-born JIMENEZ, who started his career in his homeland in 1989 and came to NEW YORK radio in 1993. "#2 would be a disappointment."
