Pre-currency ARBITRON data from NEW YORK, running side-by-side with the diary. revealed to ALL ACCESS by sources, indicate that CLEAR CHANNEL's NEW YORK cluster grabbed the top-four positions 25-54 in the Holiday PPM currency -- Top 40 WHTZ (Z100), Rhythmic AC WKTU, Classic Rock WAXQ, and of course AC WLTW.
SBS Tropical WSKQ was the market's leading Spanish-language station, well ahead of sister Spanish Contemporary WPAT and UNIVISION Tropical WCAA. While 'SKQ is the top Spanish station in the diary, WPAT is a much stronger second in the diary arena.
CLEAR CHANNEL Urban WWPR (POWER 105) finished ahead of EMMIS Rhythmic WQHT (HOT 97) in the battle for hip-hop supremacy 6+ and 18-34, but EMMIS was the Urban AC winner as WRKS beat INNER CITY rival WBLS handily 6+ and 25-54. These are opposite results from the FALL book, where WBLS narrowly topped WRKS 25-54.
With WLTW getting a nice boost from the holiday music, CBS AC WWFS was off slightly, but still was solid performer in the 25-54 cell -- actually finishing ahead of sister Classic Hits WCBS-FM.
Comparing broad stroke rankers from FALL 2007 diary to the Holiday book, in 6+ and in target demos, led to the following conclusions
Much Stronger: Christmas/AC WLTW, Top 40 WHTZ, Rhythmic AC WKTU, Hot AC WPLJ
Stronger: Classic Rocker WAXQ, AC WWFS, Urban WWPR, Alternative WXRK
Steady: Top 40/Rhythmic WQHT, Sports WFAN-A, News WCBS-A, Classic Hits WCBS-F, News WINS-A, Tropical WCAA
Off Slightly: UAC WRKS, Smooth AC WQCD, Tropical WSKQ
Off Dramatically: UAC WBLS, Spanish Contemporary WPAT
Z100 also dominated the 18-34 cell in PPM.
