BBC RADIO LEICESTER drops comic actor BILL MAYNARD's SUNDAY afternoon show. MAYNARD, 79, returned to the station five years ago for the eclectic "BILL OF FARE" show; he worked at RADIO LEICESTER in 1968 before his acting career took off.
MAYNARD told the LEICESTER MERCURY, "I have just been sacked by the BBC. The official line is programme replanning, but it isn't about rearranging programmes for a month's time, it is instant." He complained, "I am fed up because I love doing the programme, but I will hold my hands up and say I have been audacious and outrageous. I'd defect to anybody who wants to use me. There are several radio stations who have shown an interest in my work. I might take over from (BBC RADIO 2 morning host TERRY) WOGAN."
