N.C., Pittsburgh Sportscasting Legend Bil Currie Dies

Condolences to family and friends of longtime sportscaster BILL CURRIE, who died MONDAY night in YELM, WA after a brain hemorrhage. His age is being reported variously as 83 or 85.
CURRIE, a flamboyant, bow-tied figure in loud sports coats with a flower in his lapel, was best known for his stint as the radio voice of UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA basketball ("THE MOUTH OF THE SOUTH") and later for his tenure as sports anchor at WESTINGHOUSE CBS affiliate KDKA-TV/PITTSBURGH; he also briefly worked at WESTINGHOUSE then-NBC affiliate KYW-TV/PHILADELPHIA and worked at WSOC-A, WSOC-TV and WBT-TV/CHARLOTTE.
