BEASLEY BROADCAST GROUP has named MATT JOHNSON Dir./Programming for Top 40/Mainstream WXKB (B103.9) and Classic Rock WRXK (K-ROCK)/FT. MYERS-NAPLES, as well as PD of sister Alternative WJBX (NEW ROCK 99X) and WXKB. Also at WRXK, APD/middays MARK "STEELE" MATHEWS has been promoted to PD.
JOHNSON has been with BEASLEY and WXKB since 2004, where he served as PD/afternoons. He was previously PD for WDKF/DAYTON and WDBT/JACKSON, MS. On top of the aforementioned duties, JOHNSON will also oversee the programming of three HD2 channels: HANEY’S BIG HOUSE 96.1 HD2 (sister station to Classic Rock WRXK) and 99X-TENSION HD2 (sister station to New Rock 99X WJBX-FM), which airs Pop-Alternative music.
"Managing the growth of three very important radio stations and their HD sister stations is a very exciting opportunity," JOHNSON said. "The BEASLEYS’ commitment not only to winning, but to the future of radio -- especially HD Radio technology -- provides a truly unique opportunity for us to succeed today, tomorrow, and in the future."
"MATT truly thinks out of the box, and his follow-through is as creative and dependable as the original idea. I couldn't be more pleased about his promotion," said BEASLEY-SOUTHWEST FLA VP/Market Mgr. BRAD BEASLEY. "He’s a bright, talented guy with an impressive track-record for his young age, and a valued member of the BEASLEY team."
STEELE, who has been with 96.1 K-Rock since 2000, said of his promotion, "I am deeply honored by this opportunity to program WRXK. Over the years, I've developed a strong passion for BEASLEY, 96.1 K-ROCK and the radio business in general. I look forward to taking the station to its next level; as far as I'm concerned, the best years are yet to come!"
"I have great confidence in MARK and I know he has much to bring to the table," BRAD BEASLEY said. "I'm looking forward to seeing his ideas in action and watching where he takes K-ROCK."
