The AP reports that YAHOO!, in an effort to ward off the acquisition efforts of MICROSOFT, is discussing a possible Internet partnership with NEWS CORP. The specifics of the proposed joint venture have yet to be hammered out.
According to THE WALL STREET JOURNAL, NEWS CORP. would fold MYSPACE and its other Net assets network into the heritage search engine. Such a move would certainly boost YAHOO's market value above MICROSOFT's $44.6 billion offer. Predictably, rumors of the negotiations sent the price YAHOO stock up 31 cents, while NEWS CORP. shares slipped 10 cents.
Besides talking with NEWS CORP., YAHOO also reportedly has explored an advertising partnership with GOOGLE, its biggest rival, but rumors of a possible merger with TIME WARNER Inc.'s AOL have been largely discounted.
