Arbitron: All-Christmas Music Boosts AC Format Share
February 19, 2008 at 5:46 PM (PT)
ARBITRON's latest American listening trends survey found that, all too predictably, AC stations benefited from playing all-CHRISTMAS music -- while almost every other music format took slight hits. No doubt due to the political season, News/Talk was the only other format to show growth in the FALL of '07.
AC stations' share grew 13.9-15.2 in the FALL, yet it remained the second most-popular format behind News/Talk, which also rose, but not as much: 17.4-17.9.
The only major music format group that didn't fall was the Spanish-language stations, as it was flat at 10.9. Taking slight share dips were Top 40 (11.0-10.8), Urban (10.2-9.9), Country (9.2-9.0), Rock (7.8-7.5), Oldies (6.1-5.8), Alternative (3.8-3.6), New AC/Smooth Jazz (2.8-2.5) and Adult Hits (2.5-2.4).
Religious-formatted stations were essentially flat for the holidays (2.5-2.5).
