JIM PATTISON BROADCAST GROUP LTD.'s purchase of AC CKIZ (107.5 KISS FM)/VERNON, BC and Country CIGV (100.7 GIANT FM)/PENTICTON, BC and their additional transmitters has been denied by the CRTC. The agency ruled that the addition of the stations to PATTISON's roster would cause undue concentration in the KELOWNA, VERNON, and PENTICTON markets, where PATTISON and ASTRAL MEDIA would end up owning all the commercial stations.
In a separate decision, the CRTC approved ABORIGINAL VOICES RADIO's request to put its EDMONTON, MONTREAL, and KITCHENER-WATERLOO under the same conditions of license but denied the company's application to relax its condition of license regarding the kind of spoken word programming it can air.
