Reporter's Exit Stirs Controversy In ABQ

CITADEL Talk KKOB-A/ALBUQUERQUE afternoon news anchor LAURA MACCALLUM has resigned, and the circumstances have political bloggers buzzing: the resignation came after the station reportedly pulled her stories about allegations that delegates to the BERNALILLO COUNTY REPUBLICAN PARTY delegate nominating conventions were paid for their votes.
Journalist DENNIS DOMRZALSKI's F-BRILLIANT blog says that MACCALLUM's stories were spiked by the station and she quit as a result, but News Director PAT ALLEN said that the stories had not been corroborated and a source for the stories was disgruntled because he hadn't been elected. The stories aired last MONDAY, TUESDAY, and WEDNESDAY before being yanked. MCCALLUM told DOMRZALSKI that she quit because she "had an ethical problem with the stories being pulled because (Rep.) HEATHER WILSON’s campaign (for the Senate) put pressure on newsroom management."
