FCC Sez No To City Of License Change, Renewal Challenge
March 26, 2008 at 11:43 AM (PT)
The FCC has rejected TERESA PRIETO's appeal of its denial of her application to change the city of license of her Spanish Contemporary Christian WPLO-A/GRAYSON, GA to LAWRENCEVILLE, GA. The Commission had rejected the move because it would have left GRAYSON without a station. PRIETO argued that the prohibition did not apply to her application, that it is not a formal rule, and that the denial should have prompted a hearing, with which the Commission disagreed.
The Commission also denied WJZD, INC.'s Petition for Reconsideration of the license renewals of CLEAR CHANNEL's AC WMJY (MAGIC 93.7)/BILOXI, Country WKNN (K 99.1)/PASCAGOULA, MS, and Talk WBUV (NEWS RADIO 104.9)/MOSS POINT, MS. WJZD alleged that CLEAR CHANNEL "engineered" an unauthorized transfer of control of Urban WQYZ (92.5 THE BEAT)/OCEAN SPRINGS-BILOXI, MS, was a repeat indecency rules violator, may have violated ownership caps, and shouldn't be a licensee due to misrepresentation and lack of candor. The commission's staff rejected all allegations, and the Media Bureau affirmed the dismissal.
