Peabody Award Winners Announced

Radio winners of 2007 PEABODY AWARDS include the TEXAS HERITAGE MUSIC FOUNDATION's "WHOLE LOTTA SHAKIN'," a public radio series about 1950's rockabilly; AMERICAN PUBLIC MEDIA's "THE MTT FILES," a series with conductor MICHAEL TILSON THOMAS; AMERICAN PUBLIC MEDIA's "SPEAKING OF FAITH: THE ECSTATIC FAITH OF RUMI," about the resurgent interest in the 13th century poet; noncommercial WNYC-A/NEW YORK's "BRIAN LEHRER SHOW"; the CENTER FOR EMERGING MEDIA's "JUST WORDS" short-form documentary series; and NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO, CHICAGO PUBLIC RADIO, and URGENT HAIRCUT PRODUCTIONS' radio game show "WAIT, WAIT... DON'T TELL ME!"
Among the TV winners were NBC sitcom "30 ROCK," BRAVO's "PROJECT RUNWAY," AMC's original series "MAD MEN," COMEDY CENTRAL's "THE COLBERT REPORT," DISCOVERY's "PLANET EARTH," and SHOWTIME's series "DEXTER." UNIVISION's public service campaign "YA ES HORA," directed at legal immigrants with instruction on how to apply for citizenship, was also honored, as was film documentary "TAXI TO THE DARK SIDE." ABC NEWS' series of reports on wounded veterans by BOB WOODRUFF, himself wounded in IRAQ, and two CBS NEWS reports also about IRAQ issues won PEABODYS as well.
The awards, handed out by the UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA's GRADY COLLEGE OF JOURNALISM AND MASS COMMUNICATION, were announced at a ceremony on campus TODAY (4/2). The awards will be presented JUNE 16 at a luncheon in NEW YORK, emceed by NBC NEWS' BRIAN WILLIAMS.
