John and Ken Comments May Lead To Trial Move

CLEAR CHANNEL Talk KFI-A/LOS ANGELES afternoon team JOHN AND KEN's campaign to "taint the jury pool" for the trial of former ORANGE COUNTY Sheriff MIKE CARONA may force a change of venue for the trial.

The hosts have been reading transcripts from tapes of conversations between CARONA and his then-assistant DON HAIDL discussing hiding evidence of taking money and gifts, with CARONA allegedly trying to get HAIDL to lie before a grand jury; JOHN AND KEN have been urging listeners to get on the jury to convict CARONA and deny having heard the show if asked during voir dire. CARONA's attorneys asked U.S. District Judge ANDREW GUILFORD for a change of venue, possibly outside SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, while the prosecution responded that it would be surprising if anyone lied under oath just because radio hosts said they should. 

The trial has been postponed from JUNE to AUGUST at the earliest, and a final ruling on venue is pending a formal motion next week to allow the two sides to negotiate another solution.
