Sulzberger: N.Y. Times Co. Is Not For Sale
April 22, 2008 at 11:36 AM (PT)
NEW YORK TIMES CO. Publisher and Chairman ARTHUR SULZBERGER JR. told the company's shareholder meeting that the company is "not for sale."
The comment came amidst rumors that the company is for same or might merge with another firm, possibly BLOOMBERG L.P. SULZBERGER, whose family's voting control under a two-level stock structure has drawn fire from investors, said that the rumors of a sale are "ill informed."
For his own part, NEW YORK Mayor MICHAEL BLOOMBERG, founder of BLOOMBERG L.P., also denied the reports, telling a MONDAY press conference that he is "not going to go into the newspaper business."
The TIMES owns Classical WQXR/NEW YORK.
