TRIBUNE CO. has named EQUITY GROUP INVESTMENTS Senior Advisor DON LIEBENTRITT as General Counsel. LIEBENTRITT will assume his TRIBUNE duties in mid-MAY; he replaces CRANE KENNEY, who will devote all of his time to his duties as Chairman of the CHICAGO CUBS.
In addition, TRIBUNE has upped Senior Counsel/Mergers and Acquisitions DAVID ELDERSVELD to VP/Deputy General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. He joined TRIBUNE in 2005 and is moving to his new post immediately.
"This move will allow CRANE to focus exclusively on securing a World Series Championship as the team enters its next phase of ownership," said new TRIBUNE Chairman/CEO SAM ZELL. "DON LIEBENTRITT's talent and experience and DAVE ELDERSVELD's extensive knowledge of the company make a great combination. They will provide excellent leadership for our legal department."
KENNEY added, "DAVE played a critical role in our recent going-private transaction. He has a great understanding of the company’s strategies and a proven record of executing transactions that make a difference —- he will be the perfect compliment to DON."
