Clear Channel To Launch eRockster

CLEAR CHANNEL is launching a new online and HD multi-genre radio station format inspired by the lineup of the COACHELLA VALLEY MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL, reports THE NEW YORK POST. Look for the official announcement TOMORROW (4/29) that the format, known as EROCKSTER, was heard over the weekend at the INDIO, CA festival in a "pirate radio" stunt that pre-empted the regular programming on Adult Hits KAJR.
COACHELLA, which wrapped yesterday, is among the biggest and most influential music festivals in the US, drawing more than 50,000 people. Its lineup features superstars like MADONNA, PRINCE and PINK FLOYD'S ROGER WATERS with a cavalcade of more than 100 buzzy indie rock bands, DJs and electronic acts.
CLEAR CHANNEL is attempting to mirror that sensibility with eRockster, but with an expanded focus. Song selection will grow from the 1,000 tunes it played over the weekend, to some 5,000 tracks, including music from the RAMONES, JIMI HENDRIX, THE ROLLING STONES, GRANDMASTER FLASH, JOHNNY CASH, PAVEMENT and DR DRE. Many of the tunes come from acts that haven't played COACHELLA, but still fit the mold.
ERIC SZMANDA, best known as a star on the CBS television hit "CSI," will curate the music on EROCKSTER and serve as its on-air personality.
