Monticello, VA Broadcasters Oppose New Localism Regs

Announcing their opposition to the FCC's proposed localism requirements are The VIRGINIA ASSOCIATION OF BROADCASTERS and CHARLOTTESVILLE broadcasters, including radio stations owned by MONTICELLO MEDIA. A joint statement released by the parties assert that new localism ascertainment regulations "will hinder local stations. In addition, the proposed regulations would have the effect of increasing operating costs without any consequent public benefit.
"Broadcasters are successfully serving their local communities in today’s more flexible regulatory environment through the broadcast of local news, sports, public affairs and emergency information," the release stated. "Stations are also active participants and sponsors of local community organizations, events, programs and charities."
