NPR Memo Warns Of Cuts

A memo from NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO VP/News ELLEN WEISS to her staff warns of cuts to come, with the network already 2% ($742,000) over budget for the year and projected to run $3 million in the red by SEPTEMBER (the end of the fiscal year) without cuts.
The memo, posted by MEDIABISTRO's FISHBOWLDC.COM, says that the network must "limit the discretionary travel," "limit overtime," and not fill some open positions. WEISS says that a "serious slowdown in the sponsorship market (underwriting)" and reduced prime-time programming license fees have impacted revenues.
