The non-profit NATIONAL HISPANIC MEDIA COALITION (NHMC) has sent a letter to the FCC with its own list of demands should the COMMISSION sign off on the SIRIUS/XM merger. "We are especially concerned that the merger will negatively impact the ability of Latinos to access those markets not only on the consumer side but just as important in programming," Pres./CEO ALEX NOGALES wrote.
The NHMC wants the FCC to set aside 15% of the satcasters' spectrum for "Latino programmers, [which is] the percentage of the U.S. Latino population in this country"; not raise its subscriber rates for three years post-merger; and "to allow device manufacturers to develop, and consumers to use, any device they choose without interference."
