CBS RADIO Country WYCD/DETROIT held its 26th Annual DOWNTOWN HOEDOWN this past weekend (5/9-5/11) in HART PLAZA in downtown DETROIT. Both FRIDAY (5/9) and SATURDAY (5/10) nights, fan attendence reached 500,000, causing DETROIT city officials to shut down freeway entrance ramps leading to the area.
The event, which featured 22 national Country acts and 30 local DETROIT acts, was headlined by TRISHA YEARWOOD, JOSH GRACIN, LITTLE BIG TOWN, JEWEL, CHRIS CAGLE and GRETCHEN WILSON. Other artists who graced the stage included LADY ANTEBELLUM, LONESTAR, BILLY CURRINGTON and WHISKEY FALLS.
WYCD PD TIM ROBERTS said: “It was an amazing experience for country fans to see and feel the energy of downtown DETROIT with the skyline in the background and so many greats acts on three different stages. It’s kind of hard to describe it exactly, but if you’ve been there and experienced it, it makes you want to come back year after year. This year’s FRIDAY and SATURDAY night HOEDOWN events were the biggest in the history of the festival, no question!”
