TBWA/Chiat/Day Wins Top Radio-Mercury Award Prize

TBWA/CHIAT/DAY has won the $100,000 Grand Prize in the 2008 RADIO-MERCURY AWARDS. The spot, for MARS' COMBOS snack food, is titled "Broken Heart," part of the brand's "Man Mom" campaign. The agency has won RADIO-MERCURY AWARDS for three years in a row with spots for MARS, but the current prize is its first Grand Prize. The award was presented at a gala in LOS ANGELES on WEDNESDAY, with PEREZ HILTON, RICK DEES, BIG BOY, and KNX-A/LOS ANGELES' FRANK MOTTEK on hand.
Other winners in the General Category included BVK (SHOREWEST REALTY CO.); CRISPIN PORTER + BOGUSKY (COKE ZERO); DDB CANADA (PHILIPS); DAMMAN PEARCE (FINNEGAN'S ALE); GSD&M IDEA CITY (NORWEGIAN CRUISE LINES); and SAATCHI AND SAATCHI (SMITH MICRO SYSTEMS). The Radio Innovations Award went to the RICHARDS GROUP (FRUIT OF THE LOOM); other awards went to BROMLEY COMMUNICATIONS (Spanish-language), WKQX (Q101)/CHICAGO (station-produced); LA COMUNIDAD (Urban); UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN (Student); RADIO SAVANT (Entertainment); MARTIN/WILLIAMS (Political); and ERWIN-PENLAND (PSA).
