UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA AAA WXPN/PHILADELPHIA announced that a series of events will be held throughout the month of JUNE to celebrate 30 years of "THE BLUES SHOW WITH JONNY MEISTER."
MEISTER joined WXPN in 1977 as host of THE BLUES SHOW and he’s been hosting the show every SATURDAY night since. Over the last 30 years, The Blues Show has expanded to include a weekly Morning Show feature and NPR Podcast called "THE BLUES FILE," and an hour-long program called "THE BLUES & BEYOND."
The celebration begins next MONDAY, JUNE 2nd with on-air programming that will feature the "Monday Morning Blues" download of the day (presented every MONDAY morning); MEISTER will guest host the LEICHT LUNCH every WEDNESDAY; and there will be expanded "BLUES FILE" features throughout the entire month.
On JUNE 14th, the BOROUGH OF MEDIA will present MEISTER with an official proclamation naming JUNE 14th "JONNY MEISTER DAY" during the 2008 State Street Blues Stroll.
WXPN GM ROGER LAMAY said, "This is just an incredible milestone. To do anything for 30 years is tough, but JONNY is also helping to keep an important American art form alive and well. He’s introducing new generations to a music style and that in turn will help it flourish and thrive."
