VANCOUVER will get four new FMs, as the CRTC grants applications by JIM PATTISON BROADCAST GROUP, 6851916 CANADA INC., the CBC, and MATTHEW GORDON MCBRIDE for new stations.
The CBC is getting 88.1 FM to replace the present AM CBC RADIO ONE facility CBV-A/VANCOUVER, although a concurrent request for 98.7 FM at GABRIOLA ISLAND, BC and one for 104.1 FM at NANAIMO, BC were denied. PATTISON was granted 100.5 FM for a move of its CKBD-A/VANCOUVER from AM to FM and a flip to AAA, and 6851916 CANADA got 104.1 FM for another AAA station. In addition, MATTHEW GORDON MCBRIDE won 98.7 FM for a new class A station at PORT MOODY, BC, a suburb east of VANCOUVER, that will offer yet another AAA format but targeted to the PORT MOODY-COQUITLAM-PORT COQUITLAM area.
The winners beat out 0785330 B.C. LTD., ASTRAL MEDIA, EVANOV, HARVARD BROADCASTING, IN-HOUSE COMMUNICATIONS, NEWCAP, NIRENDERJIT PATRIA, ROCK 95 BROADCASTING, THE COAST 104.1 FM, TOUCH CANADA BROADCASTING, VISTA RADIO, 902890 ALBERTA LTD., and FRANK TORRES for the new facilities.
